After having visited the school on February 12, I decided to travel to Santa Catalina for a couple of days. It´s a rennown spot for international surf events and is going to be part of the Waved Tour anyways. Hence I thought why not visit beforehand, meet some people, get a feeling for the town, its people and start to spread the word about Waved and its purpose. Turned out that I met a cool German called Tom (19) who also travels around with his surfboard. Good catching up with him and might even see eachother again in Venao. Camped out the first night and then shared a tiny room which included a kitchnette - that made it super easy to cook our own stuff as Panama is actually quite expensive. Even more for someone who´s on a charity mission ;)
Surfing was done at Playa Estero - waves were mostly beach break, with less swell than expected but anywayas ideal for beginners such as myself and for whom surfs a 'pranchinha' / shortboard. Still looking for a good spot where I can practice my longboard skills.
It might sound weird but as the internet connection is very poor around Santa Catalina, I decided to head back to Venao a bit earlier - as always stopping by in Chitré to get some admin. work done. Huge thanks go out to one of the main media sponsors "SURFEAPANAMA". Bruno Sanchez, founder of Panama´s official surfer website has done a great deal of promoting Waved so far - GRACIAS!!
